NINH THUAN – Positioned as the proud owner of the largest grape growing area in Vietnam spanning over 1,000 hectares, the south central province of Ninh Thuan is proactively embracing modern technology through the stages of production and production. different grape processing.
In a strategic move, the province is diversifying its range of grape-based products and seamlessly integrating them with the growing agri-tourism sector.
The Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development emphasized Ninh Thuan's commitment to technological advancement by collaborating with relevant agencies to disseminate post-harvest grape processing techniques. Furthermore, it is leading the establishment of wine production models and implementing cold storage facilities to develop a wide range of processed products - from jams, wines, vinegars and honey to syrups and candy - all made from fresh grapes.
To improve overall production efficiency, Ninh Thuan has built four value chains for grapes and set aside an area of 30 hectares dedicated to grape growing. The province has assigned five codes to grape growing areas covering nearly 73 hectares, and expanded VietGAP certified grape growing areas to nearly 214 hectares.
To date, the area planted with grapes using advanced technology has accounted for 31% of the total in the province, bringing in income ranging from 500-600 million VND (20,800 - 25,000 USD) per hectare per crop and from 1 -1.2 billion VND/ha/year.
Looking forward to 2025, Ninh Thuan aims to increase the grape growing area to about 1,770 hectares, for a total output of 44,160 tons. Notably, VietGAP, GlobalGAP and organic certified grape growing areas are expected to cover 1,070 hectares, equivalent to nearly 60% of the total, with an expected production output of about 27,900 tons.
Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Dang Kim Cuong said the department will continue to advise the Provincial People's Committee to encourage the agricultural sector, focusing specifically on grape growing.
Ninh Thuan remains steadfast in its commitment to developing the geographical indication of "Ninh Thuan grapes" and implementing traceability labeling to protect the integrity of the brand. In addition, the province is expanding support for viticulture and business organizations, encouraging them to participate in trade promotion events, exhibitions, trade fairs and market connection initiatives, eventually looking forward to the exciting prospects of international exports, he added. — TTXVN/TTXVN
