Tuy Phong district is focusing on propagating and encouraging farmers to maintain the existing dragon fruit growing area, while improving product quality and value.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tuy Phong district, the area planted with dragon fruit is tending to decrease slightly, currently the district has more than 577 hectares. This area is mainly concentrated in the communes of Chi Cong, Phong Phu (150 hectares), Lien Huong (invading Phu Lac 150 hectares), Hoa Minh 37 hectares and other communes such as Phu Lac and Phuoc The. In particular, the district focuses on developing dragon fruit according to the VietGAP process with more than 117 hectares, demonstrating the transition from traditional to modern production, increasing the added value of the product.
Thanks to favorable climate and soil, dragon fruits in Tuy Phong often produce large, sweet and beautifully colored fruits. Dragon fruit grown on sandy soil in Chi Cong and Phong Phu is highly appreciated for its quality with its characteristic sweet and sour taste. Red dragon fruit grown on sandy soil brings high economic value. Recently, the selling price of red-fleshed dragon fruit sometimes exceeds 30,000 VND/kg, while white-fleshed dragon fruit ranges from 22,000 - 26,000 VND/kg. Thanks to that, farmers have a fairly stable source of income.
Despite positive development, Tuy Phong district still faces challenges such as a lack of direct purchasing and packaging businesses, making farmers dependent on agents in neighboring districts like Bac Binh. To overcome it, it is necessary to invest in purchasing and processing infrastructure, building links between production and consumption to optimize product value. At the same time, encourage businesses to invest in purchasing and processing infrastructure. To maintain the existing area and expand towards VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic... Tuy Phong district needs to strengthen agricultural support policies, encourage farmers to convert to sustainable production and improve product quality. As well as keeping the area planted with red dragon fruit on sandy soil in Chi Cong, Phong Phu.

The goal by 2030 is to maintain a dragon fruit area of about 500 hectares, achieving a productivity of 22 tons/ha and a total output of 8,800 tons/year. The district promotes the application of high production standards such as VietGAP, GlobalGAP and organic agriculture, with the area applying these standards reaching 70-75% for VietGAP, 10% for GlobalGAP and 5% for agriculture. Organic. In addition, the district also set a water-saving irrigation target of 85%.

The district will focus on encouraging investment by businesses and cooperatives in dragon fruit, promoting value chain development and supporting farmers to apply modern technology. This helps increase the added value, production efficiency and competitiveness of Tuy Phong dragon fruit products. The district will also improve production organization to meet international standards and minimize intermediaries, aiming to form linked value chains and strengthen connections with businesses and cooperatives in the region. purchasing, processing and consumption processes, building a value chain with growing area codes, traceability and ensuring information transparency as well as food safety. At the same time, strengthen inspection and supervision of growing area codes and packaging facility codes to ensure exported products have the correct origin, avoid impersonation and improve reputation and international competition. In addition, the district will also promote piloting and replication of specialized dragon fruit production models, meeting market requirements such as ecological agriculture, green agriculture associated with saving resources and reducing emissions; organic agriculture, circular agriculture, smart agriculture and combination with industry and services such as tourism, environmental protection, technology training and agricultural business...
